Manufacturer's Certificates: Certify products meet or exceed specified requirements. 1.6 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Manufacturer Qualifications: Company specializing in manufacturing products specified in this section with minimum three years documented experience. B. Applicator Qualifications: Installer Company specializing in performing Work of this section with minimum three years documented experience and with applicators approved and certified by the adhesive manufacturer. ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Include a mock-up if the project size and/or quality warrant taking such a precaution. The following is one example of how a mock-up on a large project might be specified. When deciding on the extent of the mock-up, consider all the major different types of work on the project. C. Mock-Up: In cooperation with roof tile adhesive manufacturer, roof membrane manufacturer and installer, construct a mock-up of roofing including insulation adhesive products, insulation, underlayment, roofing membrane and accessories. 1. Locate in areas designated by Architect. 2. Mock-up shall be a minimum of a 10 foot (3.05 M) by 10 foot (3.05 M) area and include the edge, vertical surfaces and other typical transition conditions anticipated. 3. Do not proceed with remaining work until installation workmanship and appearance is approved by Architect. ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Delete one of the following two paragraphs. 4. Mock-up may not remain as part of Work. 5. Accepted mock-up may remain as part of Work. 1.7 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING A. Store products in manufacturer's unopened packaging until ready for installation. B. Store products under cover at temperatures between 50 to 75 degrees F (10 to 24 degrees C). C. Store and dispose of solvent-based materials, and materials used with solvent-based materials, in accordance with requirements of local authorities having jurisdiction. D. Maintain dry storage area for products of this section until installation of products. 1.8 PROJECT CONDITIONS A. Maintain environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, and ventilation) within limits recommended by manufacturer for optimum results. Do not install products under environmental conditions outside manufacturer's absolute limits. B. Apply adhesive when adhesive temperature is between 70 to 80 degrees F (21 to 27 degrees C). Do not apply adhesive if the surface and ambient temperature is less than 45 degrees F (7.2 degrees C) and falling. C. Do not apply adhesive over frost, wet surfaces or on decks with standing water. Do not apply when inclement weather is immanent. 1.9 COORDINATION A. Coordinate Work with installation of roof covering and associated roof penetrations and counterflashings installed by other sections as Work of this section proceeds. 1.10 WARRANTY ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Include the following if required for project. Not available over and existing built-up roof surface. A 10 year adhesion warranty is available. Roof Insulation Adhesive: Polyfoam Products Tite-Set Commercial Roofing Insulation Adhesive, two-component polyurethane froth adhesive designed to attach a variety of insulation board stock to various substrates as well as to additional boards where multiple layers are required. PART 3 EXECUTION 3.1 EXAMINATION A. Do not begin installation until deck surfaces have been properly prepared. B. Examine roof deck for suitability to receive insulation. Verify that substrate is dry, clean, and free of foreign material that will damage insulation installation. C. Verify that roof drains, scuppers, roof curbs, nailers, equipment supports, vents, and other roof accessories are secured properly and installed in conformance with drawings and submittals. D. Verify that deck is structurally sound to support installers, materials, and equipment without damaging or deforming work. E. Verify deck surfaces are dry, unfrozen, and free of ridges, warps, and voids. F. Do not begin installation until substrates have been properly prepared. G. If substrate preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect of unsatisfactory preparation before proceeding. ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Delete the paragraphs below that are not actually required by the text of the edited section. Edit as required for the project conditions. 3.2 PREPARATION A. Prepare surfaces using the methods recommended by the manufacturer for achieving the best result for the substrate under the project conditions. B. Structural concrete, precast concrete, lightweight structural concrete, cementitous wood fiber plank, insulating concrete and gypsum. 1. Clean surfaces thoroughly prior to installation. 2. Surfaces must be free of any debris, dirt, dust, laitance, grease, oil and moisture. C. Recover over bituminous asphalt and built-up roofing. 1. Strip and completely remove existing roofing materials. 2. Clean roof surface of all loose unbonded materials and debris. 3. If residual asphalt is present on the deck surface a field pull test must be performed to verify the suitability of the substrate. Contact the adhesive manufacturer 14 days in advance to schedule test. D. Steel deck. 1. The upper flange of steel deck must be clean and free of any debris, dirt, dust, laitance, grease, oil and moisture. 2. Remove any residual shop oil coatings with a suitable cleaner. 3. No moisture may be present in the lower flange of the deck. E. Roof Accessories. 1. Verify that roof accessories such as drains, scuppers, roof curbs, nailers, flashings equipment supports, vents, and other roof accessories are clean and free of any debris, dirt, dust, laitance, grease, oil and moisture. 2. Remove any residual shop oil coatings with a suitable cleaner. ** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Delete installation requirements from the list below that are not actually required. Edit as required for the project conditions. Coordinate with performance requirements specified. Consult with manufacturer for additional information. 3.3 INSTALLATION A. Install in roof insulation accordance with the adhesive manufacturer's instructions and the performance standards specified. B. Insulation: 1. Insulation boards shall be no larger than 4 feet by 4 feet (1 m by 1 m). 2. For multiple layer applications, stagger joints in subsequent layers to eliminate thermal breaks. 3. Do not leave installed insulation exposed to weather. Cover and waterproof immediately after installation. 4. Seal exposed insulation edges at the end of each day. Remove insulation edge seal when work resumes. 5. Remove installed insulation that has become wet or damaged and replace with new solid and dry insulation material. C. Adhesive Application: 1. Apply adhesive directly to approved substrate using continuous ribbons 2-1/2 to 3-1/2 inches (64 to 89 mm) wide by 1 to 1-1/2 inches (25 to 38 mm) high, placed a maximum of 12 inches (305 mm) O.C. Application rate can vary and an increased amount of adhesive may be required at the perimeter of the roof depending on building and parapet wall heights. 2. Place insulation boards onto adhesive beads within 5 minutes of application and walk-in immediately to spread beads for maximum contact. 3. Time required is normally 4 to 5 minutes at 80 degrees F (27 degrees C) but will depend on the ambient temperature at the time of application. D. Roof Penetrations and Drains: 1. Apply additional adhesive at all roof drains ant around all roof penetrations. 2. Apply adhesive uniformly and parallel around all openings. 3. Place insulation boards onto adhesive beads within 5 minutes of application and walk-in immediately to spread beads for maximum contact. 4. Time required is normally 4 to 5 minutes at 80 degrees F (27 degrees C) but will depend on the ambient temperature at the time of application. E. Steel Deck: 1. With the edge of the insulation centered over the upper flange of the metal deck, apply a bead of adhesive for the full length of the insulation board using continuous bead 2-1/2 to 3-1/2 inches (64 to 89 mm) wide by 1 to 1-1/2 inches (25 to 38 mm) high. Continue to apply adhesive to every other upper flange of the deck at the same minimal rate to achieve a nominal 12 inch (305 mm) O.C. spacing of the adhesive ribbons and as required by the performance requirements specified. 2. Place insulation boards onto adhesive beads within 5 minutes of application and walk-in immediately to spread beads for maximum contact. 3. Time required will depend on the ambient temperature at the time of application. 3.4 CLEANING A. Remove all debris and excess insulation from roof. B. Sweep insulation clean before application of roofing membrane. 3.5 PROTECTION A. Protect installed products until completion of project. B.
